About Me
My journey into psychology ignited during my teenage years when I volunteered within my local community, extending help to those grappling with the profound impacts of mental health challenges, particularly at a young age. Initially my focus was in providing psychological support for women, children, and young people dealing with issues ranging from learning difficulties to severe mental health concerns, it was the latter that captured my deepest empathy and guided my future path in trying to understand how adverse development at an early age can significantly impact on our future adult self.
In the early days, I assumed the role of a 'tutor and animator' in a school, utilizing interactive programs to enrich students' knowledge and personality development. Progressing into a more senior position, I took on a leadership role, training others in these techniques and overseeing new tutors. This thirst for sharing and understanding knowledge continues to this day in my educating capacity as visiting lecturer at Universities.
My foundational experiences working with children and young people within the education system cultivated a keen interest in employing specific and creative forms of therapy. This vocational training led me to appreciate the value of creative therapies such as play therapy, art therapy, and especially drama therapy. This creative approach has been integral to my work, enabling a more open and understanding connection with individuals, providing them the freedom to express themselves openly.
The creative aspect of psychology, coupled with diverse therapeutic techniques, has proven highly effective, particularly in addressing complex traumas. Through the years, drama therapy interventions have allowed me to offer robust psychological support for children and their parents across the psychological spectrum. In recognition of my work, I received a prestigious academic award from Cambridge University in 2016.
Later in my career I began utilizing internationally recognized modalities such as Theraplay® Informed Practice, but it was my early experiences including serving as a psychiatrist assistant, offering professional counselling and assisting with clinical assessments that sparked my passion to help young people in particular. In the past I provided counselling and contributed to voluntary counseling organizations in the Berkshire region. Moving on, I went on to hold the position of 'Step 3' High Intensity (H.I.) Counsellor for Depression in the NHS at East Berkshire. I went into the private sector working at Select Healthy Mind Ltd, as it gave me more flexibility to work more integratively and unrestricted in what treatment I can offer patients, removing beaurocrasy and deadlines. We are all individuals and one size treatment does not fit all. This is 'Select's' ethos too.
I hold a Master's of Science Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Derby, along with a Post Graduate Certificate and Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, both achieved with merit. As a Level 7 counselor, I also possess a Diploma in Counselling Psychology from City Unity College and a Bachelor's Degree from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Patra.
Fluent in English, Greek, and Polish, I've been commended for my excellent interpersonal skills. Proficient in written and verbal communication, I take pride in offering comprehensive information about therapy and pharmacological treatments. Embracing an integrative approach, I am trained in cognitive-
My MSc Research and dissertation, titled 'An exploration of any connections between childhood trauma and schizophrenia and implications for integrative therapeutic practice,' involved a thematic literature review, showcasing my dedication to advancing knowledge in the field. If you seek a therapist with a rich background, multilingual proficiency, and a holistic approach to healing, I welcome individuals of all ages and walks of life to my practice.
